Women's Lacrosse Wins NEWLA Opener, 20-1, Over Becker

Worcester, MA - Eleven Lancers found the back of the net as the Worcester State College women's lacrosse team continued their strong start improving to 3-0 and winning their first New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance game of the season Saturday afternoon, 20-0, over Becker College at Coughlin Field.  Becker College drops to 0-3 on the year and 0-1 in the NEWLA as they begin their first year in the conference.

The Lancers posted 10 first half goals including the first 6 of the game to take control of the contest early. Worcester State got two first half goals from junior Megan Rosborough (Uxbridge, MA), sophomores Brittany Jamieson (Foxboro, MA) and Abby Cosenza (Shrewsbury, MA) and freshman Angela Johnson (Ashby, MA) to pace the offensive attack. Becker's lone tally came from Karoll Leon (Quincy, MA).

The second half was all Lancers as they added 10 more goals including first collegiate goals from freshmen Carley MacIntyre (Townsend, MA) and Lauren Moore (Brimfield, MA).

Junior Shannon Feeley (W. Springfield, MA) led the Lancers in points on the day with seven as she tallied a pair of goals and handed out five assists.  Rosborough and Cosenza each ended the day with hat tricks for the Worcester State offense.  Other Worcester State goal scorers were Maureen Lemay (Nashua, NH) with two goals, Kim Vail (W. Newbury, MA) and Kim Cosenza (Fitchburg, MA) with one each.

Worcester State goalkeeper Lyndsey Nunes (W. Springfield, MA) made three saves in earning her third win of the year before giving way to sophomore Caitlin Early (Shrewsbury, MA) who stopped two shots.  Becker College net minder Ashley Piaseki (Hamden, CT) stopped 13 shots for the Hawks.

Worcester State returns to action on Tuesday when they host Castleton State College.  Becker will travel to Fitchburg on Tuesday.
