Castleton, VT --- The Castleton State College women's lacrosse team received goals from seven different players en route to a closely-contest 12-9 win over visiting Worcester State in New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance action Saturday afternoon.

Castleton's Nicole Adams struck first 1:17 into regulation, notching her 24th goal of the season unassisted to stake the Spartans to a 1-0 lead. Brittany Jamieson (Foxboro, MA) and Abby Cosenza (Shrewsbury, MA) hooked up for the equalizer less than one minute later, before Castleton was able to score three unanswered goals to take a 4-1 lead. Stephanie Paproski, Adams and Angelica Mazzola each scored during the surge. Shannon Feeley (W. Springfield, MA) cut the lead in half off a Jamieson assist with 4:05 remaining in the half, before Adams struck again to give Castleton a 5-2 halftime lead.

The teams battled back-and-forth throughout the second half, with Marie VanDerKar giving the Spartans a 7-3 lead on a free position tally with 23:53 remaining. Jamieson scored to make it 7-4 three minutes later, and Feeley sandwiched another VanDerKar marker to cut the lead to two at 8-6.

A Lancer yellow card gave Castleton a three-minute one player advantage, and the Spartans took advantage, scoring three unanswered goals to stretch the lead to five. Worcester State came back with three unanswered of their own, but Aimee Goulette tacked on an insurance tally to put the game out of reach with 4:15 remaining.

Feeley led the Lancers with a game-high five goals, while Jamieson added two goals and two assists for 6-4 (3-3 NEWLA) Worcester State.

Freshman Haley Erickson (Saugus, MA) took the loss in goal, making 11 saves.

Adams and VanDerKar each had a team-high three goals, while the freshman Paproski tallied two goals and one assist as Castleton improves to 9-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play. Francesca Mazzola picked up the win, stopping 11 Lancer shots.

Castleton will play host to Husson University tomorrow at 12 noon in North Atlantic Conference action. Worcester State will travel to Western Connecticut State Tuesday afternoon for a non-conference match-up starting at 7:00 pm.
