Plymouth State Rolls to 24-3 Triumph Over Women's Lacrosse

 

Worcester, MA --- Freshman Amy McDonald (Hull, MA) netted a season-best six goals and classmate Megan McNabb (Lexington, MA) registered a hat-trick with five assists to help pace Plymouth State to a 24-3 victory in non-conference women's lacrosse action this afternoon at Coughlin Field.

With the triumph the Panthers even their record to 1-1 while the Lancers slip to 0-1 in their season opening contest.

The Panthers were also led by junior teammates Caitlin Swanson (Holderness, NH) and Marie Lander (Ossipee, NH) along with freshman Rachel Fistori (Medford, MA) all finished with three goals.

Defensively third-year Kristen Guest (Sandwich, MA) paced the visitors with six ground balls and six caused turnovers while McDonald and senior Nora Regan (W. Hartford, CT) both picked up five ground balls each.

Sophomore Vicki O'Brien (Canton, MA) finished with a goal and an assist for the Blue and Gold as freshman Jaclyn Lawlor (Westford, MA) and junior Stacey Doherty (Westford, MA) combined for nine ground balls and one goal apiece.

Plymouth State started off the contest with the 6-0 advantage after the first 15 minutes of action as McNabb highlighted the scoring with two free position markers and two helpers.

O'Brien broke the string with her first goal of the season at the 13:44 mark before the Panthers roared back with eight unanswered goals for the 14-1 edge at the intermission. Swanson and McDonald collectively poured in seven of their eight tallies.

With the running clock, PSU scored three times over the next 17½ minutes of play before they ended the contest with a 7-2 run. Fistori and Lander chipped in with five goals in the outburst.

Senior Ally Baribault (Mid Haddam, CT), sophomore Lauren Field (Hollis, NH) and freshman Casey Curran (Framingham, MA) split duties between the pipes for the Panthers as Field played the first half and finished with three stops. Senior Haley Erickson (Saugus, MA) finished with nine saves in the setback for WSU.

Plymouth State held a commanding 40-11 advantage in shots and a 30-17 margin in ground balls.

Worcester State continues their non-conference slate with Husson on Sunday at high noon while the Panthers will take a break and play a week from today at Dallas on their trip to Texas at 4 PM (Central Time).
