Gordon Defeats Women's Lacrosse, 21-7

Wenham, MA --- Hosting Worcester State in a non-conference duel at the Brigham Athletic Complex tonight, Gordon improved to 10-3 overall on the season with a resounding 21-7 win over their guests, while the Lancers fall to 1-11 with the loss.

Senior Jordan Alexander (Portland, ME) registered seven points for the Scots behind three goals and four assists, while sophomore Anna Blomberg (Simsbury, CT) tallied four goals and one assist, classmate Stephanie Fitzgerald (Groveland, MA) recorded a hat trick and a game-high 11 draw controls and fourth-year Jocie Knaus (Kensington, CT) tallied three.

With her efforts this evening, Fitzgerald broke the single-season draw control record she set in her rookie debut last year, setting the new mark at 91 thus far on the season.

The Scots got their offense going early and never looked back, as Knaus netted her first of the day just 15 seconds into the contest on a solo effort from the top of the eight-meter mark for the 1-0 lead. Sophomore Kari Christensen (Standish, ME) and Alexander wasted no time building the 3-0 advantage

Though freshman Jaclyn Lawlor (Westford, MA) put her team on the board to close the gap at 26:11, the Scots went on a 9-2 run over the remainder of the half to establish a 12-3 advantage at the midway point.

The first half of the second stanza proved more evenly balanced offensively as both teams netted four goals in the opening 12 minutes, but the Scots once again surged offensively to net five unanswered goals down the stretch to put the game away.

The effort for the Blue and Gold was led by senior Meagan Sheehan (Dunstable, MA) with three goals while sophomore Vicki O'Brien (Canton, MA) tallied two and Lawlor and classmate Angela Grassetti (Feeding Hills, MA) contributed one each.

Junior Alexandra Chisholm (Brookfield, MA) and senior Haley Erickson (Saugus, MA) split the day in the cage, combining for 12 saves in the loss.

Second-year Danielle McGuire (Braintree, MA) earned the win for Gordon as she was called upon to make four stops in the triumph.

Gordon had a commanding 39-11 edge in shots, the 21-9 advantage in draws and a 14-10 lead in ground balls. WSU only converted one of their two attempts from the eight-meter line while the hosts were six-for-nine.

Both squads will play conference opponents on Saturday. The Scots return to the Brigham turf on Saturday night to host Roger Williams CCC showdown at 6:00 PM. The Lancers will play becker on the road in NEWLA matchup at 1 o'clock.
