Westfield State Defeats Women's Lacrosse in Regular Season Finale

 

Westfield, MA --- Westfield State freshman Stephanie Lenhard (Duxbury, MA) tallied a game-best five goals while senior Carly Keeley (Feeding Hills, MA) recorded four goals and a helper as they both led Westfield State to a 18-3 triumph over Worcester State on Friday evening in NEWLA action.

The Owls (8-7, 6-1 NEWLA) will host Framingham State in the opening round of the conference tournament semifinals on Wednesday at 6 PM. The Lancers see their season come to an end at 3-13 overall and 3-5 in the nine-team league circuit.

Senior Nicole DiPilato (Shrewsbury, MA) tallied a hat-trick with a dish while first-year Bridget Everett (Lexington, MA) and sophomore Sarah Giardino (Foxboro, MA) both added two markers and an assist each. Everett had a team-best six ground balls and junior Tiffany Carhart (Wilbraham, MA) finished by picking up a trio of ground balls to go with a pair of forced miscues.

Freshman Michelle Tully (Tewksbury, MA), junior Daryl Powell (Beverly, MA) and senior Meagan Sheehan (Dunstable, MA) scored the goals for the Blue and Gold. Powell paced the Lancers defensively with a contest-high seven ground balls and three draws. Sheehan and junior Stacey Doherty (Westford, MA) both chipped in with a trio of assists.

Sheehan finished her career 10th on Worcester State's all-time scoring list with 47 goals and 20 assists for 67 career points.

Doherty was just one groundball shy of the single-season record (50) while freshman Angela Grassetti (Feeding Hills, MA) was just two away to tie with Amanda Vasconcelos (2003) for the second-most in a campaign, ending her rookie year with 49 for third.

Overall the Lancers broke the school record for ground balls in a season with 382.

Doherty also tied for the third-most draws (42) and the fourth most forced miscues (18) as freshman Jaclyn Lawlor (Westford, MA) had the fourth-highest draw control sum with 38.

Westfield State junior Jill Robinson (Salem, MA) stopped nine shots for the hosts while senior Haley Erickson (Saugus, MA) finished with three saves. Erickson wraps up her four seasons with the second-most saves collecting 423 shots on goal.

Overall the Owls led in shots (27-17) and draws (16-6). The Lancers were ahead in ground balls, 25-18.
