FDU-Florham Bests Women's Lacrosse In Hilton Head Finale

Hilton Head, SC --- FDU-Florham junior Courtney Redinaro (Hillsborough, NJ) found the back of the net five times and she dished out a pair of assists to help pace the Devils to a 17-11 victory over Worcester State in non-conference women's lacrosse action.

FDU (3-4) was also propelled by freshman Nicole Shirey (Pine Beach, NJ), classmate Brienna Reasoner (Flemington, NJ) and junior Caitlyn McGinley (Mount Laurel, NJ) who all registered hat-tricks.

The loss for the Blue and Gold (3-1) was their first of the campaign. WSU had won seven consecutive regular-season contests dating back to their 2013-14 season.

Sophomore Jackie Connors (Ashland, MA) led the effort for the Lancers with two tallies and a trio of helpers as classmate Kaila Chase (Northbridge, MA) scored four times to match a season high.

The Devils opened the contest with a 7-2 run with two tallies each by Redinaro, Shirey and McGinley at by the 12:25 mark and settled for the 9-3 edge at the intermission.

Worcester State came back with a 3-1 mini spurt over the first 10 minutes of the second stanza to trail by four (10-6). Chase, junior Jackie Lawlor (Westford, MA) and Molly Kilday (Westford, MA) all chipped in with goals in the outburst.

Five different goal scorers helped give FDU-Florham some distance in response with a 5-1 surge to open up a 15-7 advantage with 10:42 left in regulation.

The Blue and Gold did not go away quietly as they closed out the frame with a 4-2 skein as Connors helped try to give her squad some offense late in the game. Connors potted a pair of markers and her seventh helper to claim second place in the category among the MASCAC leaders.

Defensively, third-year Angela Grassetti (Agawam, MA) was a presence with three ground balls, two caused turnovers and a pair of draws while Lawlor pitched in with a trifecta of ground balls.

The Lancers were outshot, 26-24 in shots on goal as freshman Lea Robichaud (Holden, MA) turned aside nine in her first setback of the campaign.

Chase moved into 15th on WSU's All-Time scoring list with her outstanding performance. She now has 51 goals and 14 assists for 65 points in 22 games for the Blue and Gold.

Worcester State closes out the month with a 4 PM home meeting on Tuesday against UMass Dartmouth and a road game on Saturday versus Gordon at 3 o'clock.
