Record Eight Women’s Lacrosse Honorees Capture All-MASCAC Accolades

Westfield, MA --- Worcester State junior Angela Grassetti (Agawam, MA) along with sophomore teammates Kaila Chase (Northbridge, MA) and Jackie Connors (Ashland, MA) highlight a school-record eight All-MASCAC selections in a vote by the league's head coaches as announced by conference publicist Emily Diekelmann.

Grassetti, Chase and Connors were all recognized with First-team accolades while junior Jackie Lawlor (Westford, MA), sophomore Katelyn Murphy (Billerica, MA), freshman Angelina Sutherland (Tyngsboro, MA) and classmate Lea Robichaud (Holden, MA) were all distinguished with Second-team accolades.

Head coach Deb Draper was also chosen by her peers as the Champions Choice MASCAC Coach of the Year.

Chase has had a break-out campaign for the Lancers as a standout attacker. Chase is currently fourth in the MASCAC in goals (47) and points (63) while she has also registered 16 assists.

Building on her totals from last season, Chase has jumped into fifth on WSU's all-time scoring list (114 points) and she is fifth in career markers with 87 goals in 33 career games.

Connors earns her second-consecutive nod to the All-MASCAC team for her tremendous contributions at midfield. In 15 games, Connors has amassed 45 goals, a school-record 34 helpers for 79 points, which is fourth overall in the MASCAC and the fourth highest single-season sum in program history.

Not only has Connors done a fine job for the squad offensively, she has also done it on the defensive side as well. Her 51 draw controls are fifth in the conference and she is seventh with 19 caused turnovers.

Kilday takes home her second straight all-league honor, this time earning the distinction at midfield. In totaling 29 goals and 35 points for the third highest totals on the team in both categories, Kilday is tied for eighth in the league in ground balls (40) and her point sum is 16th.

In her second full season with the Lancers, Kilday has moved into ninth on WSU's all-time scoring list with 80 goals and 22 assists for 102 points. She has also potted 10 tallies and a pair of helpers to help lead the charge against conference opponents.

Sutherland has been an impact rookie at midfield for Worcester State. With 15 goals and 19 assists for 31 points to her credit on the campaign, Sutherland is sixth in the league in helpers and draw controls (50).

Grassetti, Lawlor and Murphy have backstopped the Blue and Gold on the back line this season. The trio have been instrumental in aiding the Lancers in posting the lowest goals allowed total in the MASCAC (138) and the third-lowest team goals against average (9.86).

The honor for Grassetti marks her second career selection as a First-team defender. Grassetti is among the top ten in the conference with 15 forced miscues and 39 ground balls on the campaign.

Murphy also has now been recognized by the leagues head coaches in back-to-back campaigns. She is currently fourth in the league in ground balls (51) and tied for fourth with 19 caused turnovers.

Playing primarily on defense this season after starting in the midfield during her first two seasons, Lawlor has been selected with all-conference laurels in all three seasons for the Lancers. Lawlor has totaled 17 ground balls, six forced miscues and four draws.

Robichaud earns a notable honor for being named the league's second-best net minder. With a MASCAC-best 12 wins to her credit, she is just one away from establishing a new single season record in her first collegiate campaign.

In addition to allowing the lowest goal total in the conference among goalies who have played at least 800 minutes, Robichaud is fourth in save percentage (.454) and goals against average (10.06) as she is fifth in saves (114).

The coaching staff of Draper, third-year assistant coach Brian McDermott and Kelly Downs, in her second-season have helped guide the Blue and Gold to a 12-3 record and a 5-1 mark in MASCAC play.

Worcester State is just one victory away from tying their school record set last season for wins in a single campaign as the Lancers claimed a first-round bye and a home game in the conference tournament playoffs.

The second-seeded Lancers will take on #1 Bridgewater State tomorrow in the MASCAC Championship at 1 o'clock for a chance to make the field for the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament.
