Worcester State Doubles Up Emmanuel Behind Seven-Goal Third Quarter

WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Worcester State Lancers exploded for a seven-goal third quarter and defeated the Emmanuel Saints, 14-7, on Wednesday night in non-conference women's lacrosse at Coughlin Field.

WSU led 6-4 at the half in a closely contested first half, but by outscoring Emmanuel 7-1 in the third quarter, Worcester State created plenty of space in their 14-7 win.

The Lancers third started with a trio of man-up goals over the span of 1:33, at the start of the quarter. Senior Abby Lauzon (Lakeville, Mass.) netted two while first-year Hannah Erickson (Dunstable, Mass.) tallied a third, boosting the Lancer led to 9-3.

Another Lancers goal made it 10-4 before Saints senior Chandra Franca (Woburn, Mass.) broke the four-goal streak by WSU. Franca's third of the game cut into the deficit, now at 10-5.

In the final 6:36 of the third quarter, three different Lancers found the back of the net. Seniors Hannah Nolan (Pepperell, Mass.) and Taylor Dube (Milford, Mass.), and junior Lily Gendron (Lakeville, Mass.) capped off the seven-goal period to give the Lancers a 13-5 edge.

Franca and senior Jessica Bourduas (Woodbury, Conn.) each scored twice in the first half for the Saints, in a close game in the opening 30 minutes.

Lancers junior Shea Jarvis (Auburn, Mass.) scored four goals to go with three assists in the win. Gendron finished with a hat-trick and two assists for WSU.

Franca ended the afternoon with four goals for the Saints to go with a ground ball and a caused turnover. Bourduas ended with the two first-half goals on eight shots.

Emmanuel first-year Delaney Brown (Agawam, Mass.) made an impact in her collegiate debut, finishing with game-highs of five ground balls and four caused turnovers.

The Saints are back in action on Thursday, March 10, traveling to Salve Regina University for a 6:30 p.m. game.

The Lancers on finish off a three-game homestand on Saturday, March 5, as they welcome Western Connecticut State University to Coughlin Field for a 1:00 p.m. game.
