LANCERS FALL TO WESTERN CONNECTICUT, 10-6

WORCESTER,Mass. – The Worcester State Lancers fell to Western Connecticut State University, 10-6, on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference women's lacrosse match-up at John F. Coughlin Field.

Worcester's junior attack, Lily Gendron (Lakeville, MA) opened up scoring, putting the Lancers up by one in the fifth minute of play. Worcester held the lead until the 8th minute of play when Western Connecticut's senior attack, Dominique DeMarsico (Danbury, CT), tied the score at 1-1. Western Connecticut would add three more goals to close out the first quarter ahead by a score of 4-1.

Worcester's junior attack, Shea Jarvis (Auburn, MA) would start the second quarter scoring in the 17th minute of play. Western Connecticut's, sophomore attack, Vicky Gracy (Bethel, CT) would strike next for her second tally of the game.

Jarvis answered back for the Lancers with her second of the game. Gendron added her second of the game, assisted by senior attack, Clare Conway (Billerica, MA) to bring the game within one for the Lancers. Gracy added her third of the contest in the 24th minute of play, followed by Western Connecticut's Katelyn Contreras (Danbury, CT), assisted by DeMarsico.

In the final minute of the first-half, Worcester's Gendron would close the gap and bring the Lancer's within 2 on her third goal of the game.  

The second half proved to be a defensive battle, cracked by Conway in the 38th minute of play, to again bring the Lancers within one. However, Western Connecticut's late push extended the lead on goals from DeMarsico to close out the third quarter. Gracy notched the only two scores in the fourth quarter on her 4th and 5th goals of the afternoon.

Western Connecticut's goalkeeper, Anna Schipf (Babylon, NY) stopped 9 of 15 shots, while Worcester junior goalkeeper, Savanna Rosado (Milford, MA) had a career high, 23 saves on 33 shots.

Worcester will return to action on March 10th at Johnson and Wales (RI) for a 5:00pm start, while Western Connecticut will host Western New England University on March 9th for a 7:00pm start.
