Lancer Women's Lacrosse Defeats Salem State, 13-6

Worcester, Mass. - The Worcester State University Lancer women's lacrosse team defeated the visiting Vikings of Salem State University Saturday afternoon in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) matchup by the final score of, 13-6, at John Coughlin Field on the campus of Worcester State University.  The victory improves the Lancers to, 8-5 overall and 3-0 in MASCAC play while the Vikings fall to, 4-7, and still in search of their first conference win.

Worcester State took a, 3-1, lead into the first break and went into the half with a, 7-3, margin.  Clare Conway (Billerica, Mass.) paced Worcester State in the first half with four goals.  Junior Lily Gendron (Lakeville, Mass.) added two first half tallies.  For Salem State Mackenzie Schmink (Danvers, Mass.) scored a pair of goals for the Vikings.

Salem state hung tough through the third period cutting the margin to three, 9-6, but the Vikings were worn down by the Lancer attack in the fourth as Worcester State scored 4 times; three by Gendron, in the last frame for the, 13-6 final score.

The Worcester State offensive attack was led by Gendron with 5 goals and an assist followed by Conway's 4 goals.   Abby Lauzon (Lakeville, MA)Julia Ravanelle (Barrington, N.H.)Abigail Wing (Griswold, Conn.) and Bridget Smestad (Branford, Conn.) all found the back of the next for Worcester State on the afternoon

Salem State was offensively led by Schmink who finished with 3 goals.

In goal for the Lancers Savanna Rosado (Milford, Mass.) made 11 stops on the afternoon while her counterpart sophomore Kaia Hollingsworth (Methuen, Mass.) made 20 saves in the loss.

Prior to the game, Worcester State honored Taylor Dube (Milford, Mass.), Hannah Nolan (Pepperell, Mass.) along with Ravanelle, Conway and Lauzon in senior day festivities.

The Lancers will return to action next Wednesday in a MASCAC battle when they host the Framingham State University Rams at Coughlin Field.  Salem State will host the Falcons of Fitchburg State University on Wednesday as well.
