Hippert Receives Nod As ECAC All-Star, To D3football.com All-East Region Team

Minneapolis, MN --- Junior Casey Hippert (Douglas, MA) has been named to the D3football.com All-East Region Second-team after a ballot by regional sports information directors and website staff. Hippert becomes the fifth WSU football student-athlete in the last six years to be recognized by the national website.

Hippert was also tabbed as an ECAC Division III North Second-Team All-Star.

Hippert, who earned First-team All-MASCAC laurels as a tight-end last month, finished the season with 62 receptions, 1,050 yards and seven touchdowns – sums that were among the top seven totals in the conference.

Among NCAA Division III leaders, Hippert is currently 21st in receiving yardage per game (105.0 YPG) 27th in total yardage as he is the only tight-end ranked in the top 50. With an average of 6.2 receptions per contest, Hippert is fourth among those at his position nationally and seventh among all receivers in New England.

Hippert was also the first Worcester State receiver to go over the millennial mark in yardage since Lancer Hall of Famer Kevin Gniadek and Jeremy Frisch went over the milestone during the 2001 season.

Cumulatively, there were 284 nominations regionally as there were five other student athletes to earn D3football.com All-East accolades from the MASCAC.

MASCAC D3football.com honorees include senior Octavias McCoy (Stratford, CT – RB) of Western Connecticut, senior Melikke Van Alstyne (Salem, MA – RB) of Framingham State, junior Matt Green (Stoughton, MA – WR) and senior Rob Ruggierio (Acton, MA – DE) of Bridgewater State and John Moriarty (Wilmington, MA – OT) of Mass Maritime.

Locally, Tim Grupp (Highland Mills, NY) of WPI was distinguished with Second-team honors.

The other D3football.com All-East Worcester State selections in each of the last six years include Steve Melville (DE – Third–team – 2008), Tyler Russell (LB – Third-team – 2010), Cliff Oratokahi (CB – Third-team – 2011), Graham Asum (RET – First-team – 2012), Bryan Narcisse (DE – Second-team – 2012) and AJ Scerra (WR – Third-team – 2012).

14 student-athletes from the MASCAC were also slotted with ECAC Division III North honors - more than any other football conference in the New England or New York region.
