Lancers Wrap up Season at Stevens in NCAA First Round
November 12, 2022Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Men’s Soccer season wrapped up their 2022 season this afternoon at DeBaun Athletic Complex in Hoboken, NJ. The Lancers, who finished last season with a record of 3-11-1, and 2-5 in the conference, had a completely different journey this season with a perfect balance of returners, first years and new additions to the program. Each game saw the squad meld and become more and more unified as they strove to their goal of a MASCAC Championship. With the championship now safely stowed away, The Lancers headed Stevens Institute of Technology to take on the #4 ranked Ducks in the round of 64. -
Men's Soccer NCAA First Round Preview
November 10, 2022Worcester, MA- For the first time since the 2016 season, the defending MASCAC Champion Worcester State Lancers will be playing in the NCAA Division lll Men’s Soccer Tournament as they head down to New Jersey to take on the #4 seeded Stevens Duck’s, the champions out of the MAC Freedom Conference. Unlike the MASCAC championship game where Worcester State were the favorites as the host team, the Lancers will come into this first round matchup as the visiting underdogs. This is not a first for this postseason run, as they travelled to Salem St. nearly a week ago as the underdogs and came home as hosts for the Championship. Below are three ways that Worcester State can place themselves in a repeat position of taking out the host institution.

Ramirez and Gavaletz Receive MASCAC Weekly Honors
November 07, 2022Worcester, MA- Worcester State Men?s Soccer team had two players receive MASCAC weekly honors this week after their dominant run in the post season that saw them clinch the MASCAC Championship yesterday afternoon in penalty kicks. Junior Andy Ramirez (Waltham, MA) was named the MASCAC Tournament MVP at the conclusion of the match for his strong performance all postseason.

Worcester State Men’s Soccer Wins MASCAC Championship
November 06, 2022Worcester, MA - The Lancers hosted the Bridgewater State Bears in the 2022 MASCAC Championship Sunday afternoon in front of a lively crowd at Coughlin Memorial Field. The Lancers & Bears both came into this game after their 0-0 draw earlier in the season with the intention to put one in the net and seal the Conference title for a trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament.

Lancers Championship Bound after Shutout over Vikings
November 04, 2022Worcester, MA - The Lancers hit the road to the O’Keefe Sports Complex in Salem to take on the #2 seed Vikings in a hard fought MASCAC Quarter Final battle Friday evening. The only goal in the game scored by Sophomore Defender Mal Hawkins (Los Angeles, CA) sealed the victory for Worcester as they eliminated the defending champions and punched their ticket to the MASCAC Championship for the first time since 2016.

Lancers advance in MASCAC Tournament with shutout victory
November 01, 2022Worcester, MA - The #3 Seed Lancers hosted the #5 Seed MCLA Trailblazers in a MASCAC Quarter Final Showdown on a cloudy Tuesday afternoon at Coughlin Field. A hard fought battle in both nets the entire 90 minutes eventually went Worcester’s way as the Lancers shut out the Trailblazers and advanced in the MASCAC playoff tournament.

Lancers close out regular season with a Conference shutout win
October 29, 2022Worcester, MA - The Lancers hosted the Massachusetts Maritime Buccaneers in their regular season finale at Coughlin Field Saturday Afternoon. With goals from Junior Forward Luke-Mark Anu (Salem, MA) and Sophomore Midfielder Waseem Mahmoud (Northborough, MA), Worcester State secured their eighth shutout of the season with a 2-0 victory over the Bucs.

Lancers and Rams Battle to Stalemate
October 22, 2022Worcester, MA - The Lancers hosted the Framingham State Rams in a MASCAC showdown Saturday afternoon in front of a lively crowd at Coughlin Field. Both teams entered this game undefeated in the conference, with Worcester State holding a 3-0-2 record and Framingham 5-0. Tensions were high on both sides the entire game, with great chances made on both ends of the field. The support from the stands added onto the excitement these two teams brought to this highly anticipated game between the only two remaining undefeated teams in the conference. Despite the chances that were created, both teams were unable to put one in the net, resulting in a draw.

October 19, 2022Worcester, MA - The Lancers traveled to Cambridge Wednesday evening to take on the MIT Engineers in non-conference action. Worcester’s two goals, including one in the final minutes in an effort to comeback from their deficit, the Lancers fell to MIT 4-2.

Spotlight: Alexander Papageorgiou, The Quality in Leadership
October 14, 2022Worcester State University?s men?s soccer team is young. Of the 28 rostered players, over half of them are underclassmen. The WSU men?s soccer team is also currently undefeated in conference play and putting together a great season. Standing out from the young crop is fifth-year and two-time captain Alexander Papageorgiou, who has assumed his leadership role in stride; as a role model for his teammates off the field, while still keeping pace on the field netting two goals thus far this fall.

October 08, 2022Worcester, MA - The Blue & Gold hosted Bridgewater State Saturday afternoon at Coughlin Field, looking for revenge from their MASCAC quarterfinal loss last season. Tensions were high on both sides throughout the game, and with shots on both ends within the final minutes, the teams concluded the match with a draw.

October 05, 2022Worcester, MA - The Lancers traveled down the road to Granger Field where they took on city rivals Clark University in a Worcester derby Wednesday night. A last minute shot by Sophomore forward Jamal Mohamud (Worcester, MA) was saved by Clark’s keeper Andrew DiStefano, which kept the game at 0-0 until the final whistle was blown.

First year forward Brady Iovanni(Lunenburg, MA) netted his first goal of the season and recorded his fourth assist, while Junior forward Luke-Mark Anu(Salem, MA) scored his second goal of the season and Junior midfielder Manny Ramirez(Waltham, MA) recorded his third assist.

The Lancers found themselves in a defensive battle Thursday night, and capitalized off an early first half goal that bounced off two WPI defenders before finding the back of the net, to hold their stand and leave with a tie.

Worcester State Leads the Way with 190 Student-Athletes Named to Fall/Winter 2022 MASCAC All-Academic
Worcester, MA- A total of 1,218 student-athletes have been honored by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference with selection to the league’s Fall/Winter 2022 All-Academic that was released earlier today by Commissioner Angela Baumann. Worcester State led the MASCAC with 190 Student Athletes named to the Fall/Winter 2022 All-Academic Team.

Men's Soccer Announces 2023 Schedule
Worcester, MA- Head Coach Aidan Abolfazli announces the release of the 2023 schedule of the MASCAC Champion Worcester State Men’s Soccer team. The 2023 season will be the third season for Abolfazli, who led the third seeded Lancers to the MASCAC Championship last season, where they defeated the fourth seeded Bridgewater State in penalty kicks to bring home the championship and NCAA bid. The 2023 season will look to continue the success of last year as they bid to return to the NCAA tournament for the second year in a row. The team will be aided in their quest by MASCAC Champion MVP Andy Ramirez, conference First Team All-Conference selection Manny Ramirez and dominant junior forward Mal Hawkins along with a breath of talent in not only their returners, but incoming additions to the program.

Worcester, MA- The current MASCAC Champions had three of their own named to All-Conference teams as announced by the MASCAC on Wednesday afternoon. The Lancers see two, junior Manny Ramirez (Waltham, MA) and junior Matt Alzamora (Holden, MA) selected for First Team honors while graduate student Alexander Papageorgiou (Tewksbury, MA) was named to the Second Team.

Worcester, MA- Morning Worcester State has had another Fall Athletic Programs make it to the MASCAC Championship Game! For the first time since the 2016-17 season, the Worcester State Lancers Men’s Soccer program will have a chance to punch its ticket to the NCAA Tournament. The team looking to stall the celebration on Sunday afternoon are the Bridgewater State Bears, who were able to play the Lancers to a 0-0 draw when the teams met on Oct. 8.
