Lancers Fight Past Becker, 3-1

LEICESTER, Mass. - Becker College fell to Worcester State 3-1 in non-conference women's field hockey action Tuesday afternoon at Alumni Field. The win lifts the Lancers record to 4-3 while the Hawks fall to 1-6.

Worcester State got on the board 4:42 into the game when sophomore Hayley Sutherland (Tewksbury, Mass.) scored from the top of the circle for her second goal of the season.

Becker tied the game in the 16th minute after Katherine DiMascio (Braintree, Mass.) put back a loose ball in front on a penalty corner for her second maker of the year.

Senior midfielder, Erika Lepowski (Baldwinville, Mass.), netted what proved to be the game winner in the 44th minute when she slipped a pass from senior Julie O'Rourke (Worcester, Mass.) into the Becker net for a 2-1 advantage. Lepowski put the game out of reach in the 69th minute on a redirected shot just past the reach of Becker goalie Gabrielle Gallo (Northport, N.Y.), with the feed from freshman forward Kylie Farrell (Sutton, Mass.) to make the final 3-1.

Gallo kept the Hawks in the game with 25 saves while teammate Nikolle Storey (Cumberland, Maine) made two defensive stops. Last week's MASCAC Rookie of the week, Alison Bieksha (Hubbardston, Mass.), earned her second collegiate victory after seeing just one shot on net.

Becker returns to action on Thursday, September 24 when they host Fitchburg State at 4:00 p.m. Worcester State will continue Little East Conference play on Saturday, September 26 when they travel to Salem State at 1:00 p.m.
