Lancers Secure Final Finish in LEC with Victory over Corsairs

Worcester, MA - The Lancers squared off in their final regular season game this evening when they faced off against UMass-Dartmouth in their last regular season LEC match. The Lancers headed into the game having already secured their berth into their final post season with the conference and vying to secure the second seed with a victory.

 

 

FINAL SCORE: 6 Worcester, 1 UMass-Dartmouth

 

 

The Corsairs opened the scoring in the first eight minutes of action but just two minutes later senior Karalyn Jones (Wilbraham, MA) found was able to single handedly work the ball into the back boards to tie up the score at one a piece.

 

The second period saw a back-and-forth battle between the two teams before junior Grace Adams (Leominster, MA) scored the game winner after a perfect ball by fellow junior Emma Thomson (Agawam, MA) to send the Lancers into the half up 2-1. Worcester was quick to continue the scoring when senior Molly Cutting (Auburn, MA) notched a goal off a pass from fellow senior and high school teammate Emily Saucier (Auburn, MA) to see the lead extend to two. Thomson secured a goal of her own to end the third period of a pass from sophomore Natalya Morin (Barre, MA) to extend the Lancers lead.

 

The final period saw both Cutting, with another assist from Saucier, and Adams add a second goal on the night to solidify the win and the second seed for Worcester State in the LEC conference. 

 

 

The Lancers will continue their season on Tuesday when they host one of the quarterfinal matches in the LEC playoffs. Their opposition is yet to be set as several teams vie for final placement tomorrow. The November 1st game is tentatively scheduled for 4pm.
