LANCERS BEST OWLS IN COME-FROM-BEHIND THRILLER

Keene State field hockey travelled to John F. Coughlin Memorial Field Wednesday for a chilly Little East Conference matchup versus the Lancers under the lights. 

Keene State started the quarter strong challenging the defense and possessing many corners. In the 9th minute of the first quarter, the Owls were able to run a ball down and into the back of the net. Just a minute later the Lancers responded with a goal by Karalyn Jones assisted by Madison Avilla

Worcester carried the momentum from the goal into the second quarter with several good runs up the field and several shots attempts. Possession continued to transfer back and forth between the two teams. The Owls put heavy pressure on Lancer goalkeeper Madison Ferrara towards the end of the quarter, but Ferrara held steadfast in the net to keep the game tied at one all.

The third quarter was much of the same with both Lancers and Owls trading attempts. In the 7th minute of play Keene State's Kalina Piasecki capitalized off of a corner for the go-ahead score. The Lancers fought on and with just two seconds left in the third quarter, the Lancers had a corner attempt. Emily Saucier fired a shot which was redirected by Zoe Athanasopoulos to tie the game headed into the fourth quarter of play.

The Lancers added the game winning tally in the third minute of the last quarter by Carly Duff, unassisted. The Owls had a fluerry of offensive opportunites coming off corners in the final minute of play, yet Lancer goalkeeper, Ferrara, made vital saves to seal the 3-2 victory for the home team.

The Lancers have three games left in their regualr season, before making their playoff run. The Lancers will return to action on Saturday as they travel to Eastern Connecticut for a non-conference match-up.
