Lancers Continue Streak, Make it 10 Straight in the MASCAC

Worcester, MA- Since conference play began after winter break, no one has been able to slow down the Lancers Men's Basketball team. Worcester continued to cruise this afternoon, easily extending their conference record to 10-0 when they hosted the Fitchburg State University Falcons.

The Lancers got off to a hot start, putting up four straight three pointers to take an early 12-0 lead. The three pointer would prove to be the key to a bigtime Worcester State victory, as the blue and gold shot over 50% from beyond the arc over an impressive first half. And talk about spreading the wealth. Worcester State scored 45 points in the opening 20 minutes, and seven of the eight Lancers to record minutes scored at least five points. Sophomore Aaron Nkrumah (Worcester, Mass.) had 10 rebounds in the first half to accompany his nine points.

After claiming a 45-27 lead in the first half, nothing would change in the second. The final score would be 87-63, and the story was written by the entirety of the Lancer roster. 15 of the 18 rostered Lancers got into the action. Nkrumah would solidify his double-double when he brought his point total to 16, and he was joined by junior Ryan Rubenskas (Bridewater, Mass.) and Tayjuan McKenzie (Boston, Mass.) who also recorded double digit points.

A handful of underclassmen took advantage of their chances in the final minutes of gameplay. First year Chris Paul (Everett, Mass.) flew through the air to throw down a dunk. Sophomores Nate Bangandozou (Worcester, Mass.), Daniel Liberatore (Hopedale, Mass.) and Suubi Nkugwa (Chelmsford, Mass.) drained threes, and Ajani Larry (Atlanta, Ga.) went 4-4 from the free throw line.

Fitchburg State falls to 4-6 in the MASCAC, and the Lancers improve to an impressive 18-5 overall. Worcester State will have two more games to go in the regular season, the next at home on Wednesday night against conference foes MCLA at 5:30 p.m .
