Forbes and Lemanski Lead Lancers in Shut Out of Buccaneers

Worcester, MA- After a thrilling Thursday night 0-0 battle versus the Keene State Owls, the Lancers Women's Soccer team (4-1-1, 2-0) is looking to find the back of the net in the afternoon meeting with Mass. Maritime as they put in their bid to remain undefeated in conference play and climb up the conference standings.

How it Happened:

 

The Lancers started the afternoon matchup hot with a goal from junior defender Jessica Forbes (Clinton, MA), assisted by junior defender Samantha Sharp (Peabody, MA), in just the first thirty seconds. Following up on that, the Lancers continued to push the pace of the game with another goal, this time the goal again came from Forbes and Sharp. Midday through the first half, the Lancers would find the back of the net once again in this clash, this time from first-year forward Audrey Rupp (Windsor, VT), assisted by Forbes for her third goal contribution of the game. With under ten minutes to go in the first half of the game, junior forward Ava Lemanski (Clinton, MA) was able to net two goals in two minutes for the Lancers, with still some time left to continue the offensive pressure. With under two minutes to go in the half, Lemanski would once again find the back of the net, securing a hat-trick in the final 7 minutes of the half. The Lancers go into the second half with a commanding 6-0 lead going into the break. 

 

The second half started quietly for both teams. The scoring started around the halfway point in the half, where sophomore forward Zahra Foladi (Kabul, AF) would find the back of the net for the first goal of the second, assisted by first-year forward Madeleine Jackson (Bridgewater, MA). With just over ten minutes to go in the game, the Lancers would get to the back of the net once more this afternoon with a goal from sophomore forward Sarah Boulanger (Millbury, MA) off a leading corner kick from junior Sophia Chandler (Worcester, MA) to add to their lead and the final of the game. 

 

The Lancers would tally a total of 53 shots in the action with junior Kylee Elliott (Dover,DE) recording two saves in the shutout win. 

 

What's Next:

The Blue and Gold (5-1-1, 3-0-0) will remain at home for their next game action, as they host Suffolk University on Wednesday at 7pm.
