O’Rourke Leads Field Hockey to 2-0 Win over Salem State
SALEM, Mass. -- Julie O'Rourke (Worcester, Mass.) scored twice as the Worcester State Lancers sailed past the Vikings of Salem State 2-0 Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

Worcester State improves to 5-3 on the season while lifting their Little East conference record to 2-1. The loss drops the Vikings record to 2-6 on the year and 0-3 in the LEC.

Midway through the first half, O'Rourke put the Lancers on the scoreboard with a slap shot from just outside the crease. Salem State had a chance to knot the score at 1-1 when Angela Montano (Saugus, MA) rifled a shot at an empty net, but was denied by Worcester State's Hayley D'Auteuil (Sutton, Mass.), who made a defensive save to hold off the Vikings.

Seven minutes into the second half O'Rourke was rewarded a penalty shot after being tripped by a Salem State defender. O'Rourke ripped the ball over Vikings' goaltender Carolyn Woodin's (Arlington, MA) right shoulder to secure the 2-0 victory.

Woodin made four saves for Salem State while Alison Bieksha (Hubbardston, MA) made one save in the victory.

Both teams resume action on September 29th when the Vikings travel to Keene State to take on the Owls at 6:30 p.m. while the Lancers host the UMass Dartmouth Corsairs at 7:00 p.m.
