Lancers Make in Three in a Row in the MASCAC Taking Down the Falcons

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State Lancers (3-4) (2-0) faced off against the Fitchburg State Falcons (1-5) (0-2) for their third conference game of the year.

 

This game was played in honor of Sam Gastonguay's mother Paula Gastonguay with ceremony held pregame in her memory.

The Lancers came out on fire to start this game with sophomore midfielder Charlotte MacGregor (Bellingham, Mass.) scoring just three minutes into the game off an assist from junior midfielder Sophia Cavallo (Northborough, Mass.). 

 

Five minutes later, sophomore midfielder Kaelin Coleman (Attleboro, Mass.) put the Lancers up 2-0 as she connected with junior forward Natalya Morin (Barre, Mass.) who received the assist. 

 

Adding to the scoring onslaught, senior forward Emma Thomson (Agawam, Mass.) put the score 3-0 with an assist from junior midfielder Madison Avilla (Westport, Mass.).   

 

The Lancer scoring would end at three for the first half while maintaining a shutout on Fitchburg St. Worcester St. was able to get off 12 shots in the first period alone and rallied with three in the second quarter.

 

Fitchburg St. flipped the script in the second half scoring a quick one for themselves with the Falcons Autumn Tibbetts breaking the scoreless game for her team, Samantha Rozum provided the assist.

 

Worcester countered the goal shortly thereafter, as just three minutes passed after the Falcons goal before senior forward Grace Adams (Leominster, Mass.) made the game 4-1. Avilla earned her second assist of the night to set up Adams for the chance.

 

Senior forward Zoe Athanasopoulos (Hopedale, Mass.) put the game away with a final score to make it 5-1. The duo was back in action as Adams added the assist to go along with the score.

 

The Lancers improve to (4-4) (3-0) while the Falcons drop to (1-6) (0-3).

 

The field hockey team will travel down the road for a matchup against a fellow Worcester school as they take on WPI on Thursday, September 28 for a 7 p.m. start.
