Ice Hockey, UMass Dartmouth Draw To 1-1 Stalemate In OT

N. Dartmouth, MA --- Freshman netminder Salvatore Tecci (Franklin, MA) stopped 27 of the 28 shots he saw on net as he helped Worcester State draw to a 1-1 overtime tie against UMass Dartmouth in MASCAC men's ice hockey action this evening.

After a clean opening frame that saw no penalties, sophomore Cody Osburn (Sacramento, CA) wristed his second goal of the season to put the Lancers up 1-0 just 35 seconds into the second period.

For the Blue and Gold (6-11-2, 3-8-2 MASCAC), second-year Stephen Rock (Tulsa, OK) and classmate Nathan Stanley (Meriden, ID) also added assists on the power play marker.

But UMass Dartmouth (7-7-5, 6-4-3 MASCAC) knotted up the score 3:01 later on the 11th tally of the season by senior Phil Bronner (Wilbraham, MA) who was aided on the play by classmates Dave McDonald (Wakefield, MA) and Zach Hepler (Sarver, PA).

Both netminders played solid between the pipes to keep the game right where it was through the end of the third period.

WSU's best chance to score the game-winner was with six minutes left in the final stanza when sophomore Brenton Dyok (Rocklin, CA) was wide open in front of the net following a pass from the right circle by junior Ryan Quirk (Brockton, MA), but UMD senior Ryan Williams (Milton, MA) put his stick out and covered up the attempt with his glove to end the threat.

The Blue and Gold also squandered a power play chance with 2:34 on the clock in the extra session.

Williams turned aside 23 shots in the draw for the Corsairs who led in shots 28-24. UMass Dartmouth was also 0-for-3 on the power play while the Lancers were 1-for-4.

Both squads continue MASCAC play on Saturday evening. Worcester State hosts Westfield State at 4:30 while UMass Dartmouth entertains Framingham State at 7:30 PM.
