Enters his 22nd year as Head Coach at Worcester State University. He coached two years as an assistant coach at Worcester State before being named Head Coach in 1992. He has led the Lancers to four ECAC Division III Tournament appearances and in each of the last three years, the squad has qualified for the MASCAC Tournament.

During the 2000-01 season he was named the MASCAC Coach of the Year for having the second-best scoring offense in the conference and for qualifying for their first ECAC Tournament in three seasons.

John is a graduate of St. John's High School. He played four years at Worcester State and was a member of two ECAC Championship teams in 1973-74 and 1976-77. He was named to the Worcester State College Hall of Fame as a member of the 1976-77 ECAC Championship team in October of 2000. He was also inducted again as a member of the 1973-74 Ice Hockey Team in 2005.
