Lancers Shutout Buccaneers in MASCAC Regular Season Finale

Worcester, MA- It was a Friday night full moon game at the Clean Harbors Stadium in a conference matchup between the Mass Maritime Buccaneers and the Worcester State University Lancers. This game was an essential game for the Lancers to come away with either a tie or the victory to secure their postseason dreams and Worcester State was set to guarantee another MASCAC postseason appearance.

FINAL SCORE: LANCERS: 3 - BUCCANEERS: 0

The Lancers got started with speed and showed they were ready to come out and fight for this game tonight. The start of the half had the Lancers showing their aggression by scoring the first goal by Wilber Garcia (Bilbao, Spain) just 11 minutes into the game. The Lancers kept on rolling by scoring goal number two by Taylor Gavaletz (Dudley,MA) with an assist by Luke Anu ( Salem,MA) in the 27' to jump to a 2-0 lead early. The charge did not stop there because the Lancers scored goal number three in the 40' minute by Mal Hawkins (Berkeley, CA) to end the half and see the Lancers up 3-0 into the break.

The second half would be far more back and forth game between the two teams in a critical game for each as their postseason potential seeding hung in the balancer. The Buccaneers refused to concede throughout the second half and turned on their offense to send 10 shots into the box, an upgrade from the four in the first, while the Lancers struggled to regain their offensive momentum of the first. The Lancers did not need their attack to hold onto the win as their backfield and senior Andy Ramirez (Waltham, MA) and first year Tobias Schneider (Hudson, WI) combined for six saves, each with three a piece, to shut out Mass Maritime and claim the victory.

The Lancers wrapped up the regular season 5-7-4 and 3-4 in the MASCAC. They now await the final conference seeding to find out their next game in the MASCAC playoffs.
