Men's Track Takes Home 25th At NEICAAA Championships

 

Cambridge, MA --- The 4x100 meter relay team of junior Todd Paquin (Pelham, NH), sophomore's Ramses Rafael (Lawrence, MA) and Luke Curtis (Dudley, MA) along with freshman Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty) sprinted to fourth with a time of 42.38 as they helped lead the Worcester State men's outdoor track and field team to 25th at the Open New England Championships this afternoon at MIT.

Individually, sophomore Andrew Johnson (Thompson, CT) was also 10th in the high jump (1.95m/6-04.75).

The 4x400 meter squad of Rafael, sophomore Kevin Maciel (Tewksbury, MA) as well as junior teammates Tim Mazeika (Millbury, MA) and Jon Parrella (Wilmington, MA) finished 15th (3:22.90).

The 4x800 team of freshmen classmates Patrick Bova (Princeton, MA) and Connor O'Neill (Dudley, MA), second-year Zach Creeden (Billerica, MA) and junior Kerry Sabanty (Stoughton, MA) tallied 16th (8:35.58).

Select Lancers will compete next week at the ECAC Division III Championships hosted by RPI.

 

 


Results From Friday

Cambridge, MA --- Sophomore Jason Sliwoski (Leicester, MA) scored 5,952 points in the decathlon with a finish of fifth place for All-New England accolades as he helped pace the Worcester State men's track & field team on the second day of the Open New England Championships hosted by MIT.

In his final five events Sliwoski had the best discus throw (37.69m/123-8) and the second-highest toss in the javelin (51.18m/167-11). He would also time 16.17 in the 110 meter hurdles and 5:09.64 before clearing a personal-best height of 3.60 meters (11-9.75) in the pole vault.

Sliwoski was the best Division III finisher in the field of nine entrants. He becomes the second Worcester State male student-athlete to earn Open New England laurels in the decathlon as current assistant coach Matt Swett accomplished the same feat as a junior in 2004 with 5,449 points.

Other solid times included sophomore Kevin Maciel (Tewksbury, MA) who timed 55.33 in the 400 meters for 11th while freshman Duy Truong (Worcester, MA/Doherty) recorded 15th in the long jump (6.32m/20-8.75) and 20th in the 110 meter hurdles (15.77) for the fifth-highest DIII time.

Sophomore Ramses Rafael (Lawrence, MA) added 14th in the 200 (22.33), just 0.03 from qualifying for next week's ECAC Division III Championships and sophomore Matthew Begley (E. Bridgewater, MA) was 20th in the javelin throw (52.46m/172-1).

Junior Jon Parrella (Wilmington, MA) also clocked a time of 56.45 in the 400 meter hurdles which was good for 22nd overall.

 


Results From Thursday


Cambridge, MA --- Sophomore Jason Sliwoski (Leicester, MA) tallied 2,999 points for fifth place in the decathlon on the first day of the Open New England Championships hosted by MIT.

Sliwoski was the lone Division III competator in a field of nine entrants and only 267 points off of the leader, Justin Escaravage (Brookfield, CT) of Southern Connecticut. 

Sliwoski had a strong toss for first in the shot put (11.48m/37-08) before he added fourth in both the 100 meters (11.70) and 400 (53.18). He wrapped up his day with the sixth-best mark in the high jump (1.72m/5-07.75) and ninth in the long jump (5.49m/18-00.25).

Sliwoski's brother Joseph, of the University of Rhode Island, placed second after the opening day with 3263 points.
