PAXTON, Mass. - The Worcester State University men's cross country team placed third on Saturday morning at the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at Moore State Park.
Sophomore Drew Fottler (Chelmsford, Mass.) was Worcester State's top finisher, crossing the line of the five-mile course in a time of 27:39 for a fourth place finish. The second Lancer finisher was sophomore Wayne Carey (Shrewsbury, Mass.) with an sixth place finish and a time of 27:59. Worcester's third finisher was sophomore Patrick Carleton (Tewksbury, Mass.), placing eighth with a finish of 28:02. The trio was all named MASCAC All-Conference for their performances.
Bridgewater State University was crowned MASCAC Champion with 37 points. The Bears were led by senior Trevor Wysong, who was named MASCAC Runner of the Year with a first place finish, crossing the line in 25:57. Mike Hutchinson and Josh Higgins also earned All-Conference honors for top 10 finishes for Bridgewater.
In second place was Westfield State University with a team score of 60 points. The top Owl finisher was freshman Jack Merck, who finished in ninth overall with a time of 28:16, good for MASCAC Rookie of the Year honors. Tenth-place finisher Zachary Bentley was also named All-Conference for Westfield State.
Fitchburg State finished in fourth place as a team, led by fourth place finisher Jacob Movsessian, who was joined by Falcon junior Tim Sheehy on the All-Conference team. Rounding out the team scores were fifth-place Framingham State, led by 22nd place Miguel Torres, and sixth place Mass. Maritime, led by 47th place Kyle Hansen.
Bridgewater State's Connor Foley was named MASCAC Coach of the Year following the race.
