Lancers Split Pair of Run-Ruled Games in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Worcester State softball earned their second straight split of a doubleheader on Monday as they continued play at the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic.

The Lancers (2-2) defeated Morrisville State 11-0 in five innings in their first game, and then fell to Suffolk 8-0 in six innings in the nightcap.

Worcester State continues play in Myrtle Beach on Wednesday morning with an 11:30 AM game against Keene State, followed by a 1:30 PM game against Lancaster Bible.

Game 1: Worcester State 11, Morrisville St. 0 (5 inn.)

Emily Bartlett (Lowell, Mass.) went 3-3 with two runs and two RBIs and Molly Glynn (Abington, Mass.) struck out five batters over five shutout innings to earn the victory.

The Lancers wasted no time getting on the board, scoring twice in the top of the first, both on a single off the bat of Jackie Andry (Westford, Mass.).

Bartlett drove in two runs with a single to left field in the top of the second to double Worcester State's advantage, and they added three more runs in the fourth and four in the top of the fifth.

Andry, who was 2-3 on the day, doubled in a run in that fourth inning, while Brynna Meeker (Northwood, N.H.) had RBI singles in the fourth and fifth and also scored three times.

Emma Lanpher (Charlton, Mass.) was 2-4 with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored as the top three batters in the Lancer lineup (Meeker, Lanpher, and Bartlett) combined to go 7-10 at the plate.

The lead reached double-digits when Abigail Koziol (Lunenburg, Mass.) singled to left field in the fifth, and Rachel Bigelow (Westborough, Mass.) drove in the final run on an infield single.

Game 2: Suffolk 8, Worcester State 0

Worcester State was held to just four hits, two of them by catcher Kaylee Nearen (Everett, Mass.), who was 2-2. Lauren Dube () also added a pinch hit single, but the Lancers were held in check by Suffolk pitchers Alexa White (Taunton, Mass.) and Ashlyn Conley (Mansfield, Mass.), who struck out three and didn't allow a walk.

Bartlett started game two and went five and a third innings with five strikeouts, but fell to 0-2 after allowing six earned runs.

Caitlin Murphy (Abington, Mass.) set the plate for the Rams, going 3-4 with three runs batted in and two runs at the top of the lineup. Ashley King (Walpole, Mass.) was 2-3 with three runs scored and was one of three Rams to steal a base in the game.
