Lancers Fall in Comeback Bid versus Saint in NOVA

Worcester, MA- The Worcester State women's Basketball  team look to even their record as 2-2 on the 2023-2024 campaign in the Pablo Coto Tip Off Tournament as they battle Marymount in a trip down to Northern Virginia. The Lancers are coming off a win, as they defeated Anna Maria Saturday in the Worcester City tournament. 

 

Final: Worcester State: 48 Marymount : 67

 

Marymount jumped out to an early lead as they outscored Worcester 24-7 in the first quarter to put some early distance between the two teams. The Lancers fought back as they outscored the Saints 32-27 through the next two quarters to tighten the battle, but ultimately fell short in the 4th as Loyola pulled away to win 67-48 after a hard fought battle to grab an edge on the Saints in the final quarter.

 

The Lancers were led by senior Katie Hurynowicz (Tynsborough, MA)as she led the Lancers with 13 points. First year Alana Smith (Chicopee,MA) chipped in with a double double (12 points, 10 rebounds) in a dominant showing for the center in the paint tonight.

 

The Lancers return to the court tomorrow night as they play either Case Western or Penn State Harrisburg in the consolation game of the tournament at 5:30pm. The Lancers now sit at 1-3 on the young 2023-2024 season.
