Lancers Dealt First Loss of the Season by Bobcats

Worcester, MA- the Worcester State Women's Lacrosse team (1-0,0-0) remained in the road for the second game of their young season as they headed up to Maine to take on the Bates Bobcats (0-1,0-0). Last season the Lancers lost 16-8 on their home turf and looked to avenge themselves this year.

Final

Worcester State: 1

Bates: 18

The opening quarter of action would see Bates scoring quick and often. The Bobcats scored first as Sadie O'Neil (Concord, MA)  gave the Bobcats the opening lead with about two minutes into the game assisted by Madeleine Donovan (Cohasset, MA). Soon after the goal from the Bobcats another goal would follow up from Caroline Keating (Rye, NY)  giving her goal number five for the season and assisted by Lauren Wong (Walpole, MA) that would extend the Bobcats lead. This first period would continue to be all Bate's as they would take control again by another goal scored by the Bobcat's O'Neil, this time unassisted. Throughout the first period the Lancers would continue to trail, being out shot in the period that would see the Bobcats grab seven goals on fourteen shots to the Lancers line shot attempt.

The second quarter would see Bate's continuing their offensive attack as Lucy Taylor (Falmouth, ME) assisted by Laci Raveis (Fairfield, CO) giving the Bobcats a 8-0 lead. This lead would continue in the second period as the Lancers would try to stump up their defensive play, but the Bobcats were hard to slow down. The dominant offense and defense would continue as the Lancers would try once again to put a number on the board in the second quarter. Towards the end of the second period we would once again see more offense scored by the Bobcats as Laci Raveis (Fairfield, CO) would lazer in a shot to extend the lead to 12-0 Bobcats. The Lancers would try to close out the second with an offensive attack of their own but the Bobcats would once again find the back of the net before the halftime break as they took a 13-0 lead into the break. The Bobcats would finish the second with 11 shots to the Lancers 1.

The Bobcats would remain on the prowl in the third quarter, opening up the second half of this game with a goal scored by Maddy Roelofs (Rye, NH) for her first goal of the season. As the Bates offense continued to add points on the board, Worcester State was actively working and reorganizing to find their own path to the scoreboard. The rest of the third period would be quiet until there was a minute remaining, where Bates would push their lead to 17-0. The Lancers would get off one shot on the Bobcat keeper in the quarter while the defensive pressure of the Lancers stemmed the Bates attack, and kept them to just seven shots in the quarter.

In the final period of action, the Lancers hard work would pay off as they finally found the key to success. Breaking up the shutout with her second goal of the season was sophomore Mckayla Fisher (Peabody, MA) giving it a 17-1 scoreline on the board. With time winding down in the final period of this game the Bobcats would not finish the scoring as they would put up their final goal on the board to close out the game 18-1.
