Five Named To All-MASCAC Women's Soccer Team

Buzzards Bay, MA --- Senior teammates Kara Rogato (N. Andover, MA) and Sarah Connors (Gardner, MA) along with juniors Nikki Scott (Berlin, MA) and Danielle Clifford (Attleboro, MA) as well as freshman Gaby Gonet (Agawam, MA) have all been selected to this year's All-MASCAC Women's Soccer team in a vote by the leagues eight head coaches this past Monday.

Rogato, Scott and Clifford were each honored as first-team representatives while Gonet and Connors were each tabbed to the second-team. The Lancers tied with MCLA for the most student-athletes on the all-conference team.

Clifford, who was garnered with first-team accolades last season, helped propel the offensive attack as the starter at left forward. Though the end of the regular season, Clifford has totaled three goals and five assists for 11 points, which is tied for second place on the squad. Her five helpers are also tied for fourth-best in the MASCAC. Clifford is four points shy of the 50 point club.

Rogato finishes her career with a first-team nod as a center midfielder. Rogato was a four-year starter in the midfield as she had one goal and one assist for three points. Her marker this season was her first-career goal that came in a 3-1 triumph over Johnson & Wales.

Scott earns her first selection to the all-conference squad in her third season at center back. Scott helped anchor a unit that was second in the MASCAC in both goals against average (1.17) and goals allowed (26). She also tallied two goals and one assist for five points.

Connors wraps up an outstanding career with her first honor on the all-conference team. Connors led the Lancers with five goals (three game-winners) and two assists for a squad best 12 points. Connors was tied for second in game-winning goals and she is tied for fifth in goals. Connors is currently 11th on the all-time scoring list with 20 goals and seven assists in her four-year Worcester State career.

Gonet was one of four freshman to be named to the squad which included Rachael Jamieson (Foxboro, MA) and keeper Jillian Kirouac (Leominster, MA) of Fitchburg State and Mary Brinkman (Bridgewater, MA) of Framingham State. Gonet was tied with Clifford for second on the team in points with 11 as she recorded four goals and three assists.

Under the direction of third-year head coach Kevin Cumberbatch, Worcester State looks to capture their fifth MASCAC Tournament crown since the four-team competition started in 2000. The second-seeded Lancers will entertain #3 Westfield State today in the opening round.

Should WSU defeat the Owls, they will take on the winner of the MCLA/Bridgewater State contest which is being played at 1 PM in North Adams.
