Scott, Clifford Named To NEWISA, ECAC Division III All-New England Teams

Cape Cod, MA --- Senior classmates Nikki Scott (Berlin, MA) and Danielle Clifford (Attleboro, MA) have each been tabbed to the New England Intercollegiate Women's Soccer Association (NEWISA) All-New England team while Scott has been selected as an ECAC Division III New England All-Star. Both were the only representatives on each team from the MASCAC.

Scott, a first-team All-NEWISA honoree, helped anchor a defense that posted a 0.75 goals against average with 17 goals allowed in 22 games and eight shutouts. Both this seasons goals against average and goals allowed are the fourth-lowest total the squad has put up in the 20-year history of the program.

At the end of November, Scott was recognized for her accomplishments on the field and in the classroom with Capital One CO-SIDA Division III Academic All-American accolades while she was one of eight backs in New England to earn a spot on the second-team as an ECAC All-Star.

The two-time first-team All-MASCAC honoree finished her career with seven goals and a trio of assists for 17 points while she helped the squad post 30 shutouts in 70 career games. In the final NCAA Division III women's soccer statistics standings, the Lancers were 60th in the nation in goals against average and 13th in New England.

Clifford, who was honored with second-team All-NEWISA accolades, also received third-team laurels last season. She would tally nine goals and three assists for 21 points – a total that was ninth in the MASCAC.

The three-time All-MASCAC first-team selection and this year's conference Player of the Year finished her outstanding career with 26 markers and 19 helpers for the fourth-highest point total in the WSU women's soccer record book with 71 points.

Clifford was instrumental in helping lead the Lancers during the 2010 campaign with the game-winning goal in the MASCAC Tournament Championship game and again this season when she netted the lone tally in a 1-1 draw with Keene State in the ECAC Division III New England Tournament title contest. Clifford would nail the game-clinching goal as the Blue and Gold edged the Owls, 4-3, in a shootout for the crown and MVP honors.

Under the direction of fourth-year head coach Kevin Cumberbatch, the Lancers ended the year with an overall record of 14-5-3 and 5-2 in the MASCAC standings. In addition to their outstanding performance in the postseason, he helped guide the squad to claim a share of the regular season conference title.
