Women's Soccer Falls In Overtime To Keene State, 3-2

Keene, NH --- Keene State junior Brittany Boscarino (Ellington, CT) sent in the game-winning tally on off of a corner kick in the 96th minute to help lead the Owls to a 3-2 triumph in overtime over Worcester State this evening in non-conference women's soccer action.

Keene State (5-5) avenged their defeat last season in the ECAC Division III New England Championship at the hands of the Lancers (4-4), who won last years regional crown in a shootout.

After the Owls dominated the opening frame holding a 15-2 advantage in shots, the two squads drew to a 0-0 tie at the intermission.

The stalemate continued until the 64th minute when Keene State third-year Kaitlyn Huckins (Westmoreland, NH) opened the scoring with an unassisted marker.

But the Blue and Gold answered right back exactly six minutes later as freshman Kaitlyn Coelho (Ludlow, MA) found the back of the net to knot the game 1-1.

Keene State promptly responded and scored a little less than 2 1/2 minutes after junior Jessica Berthiaume (Worcester, MA/St. Peter-Marian) took a feed from classmate Hayley Kenyon (Exeter, RI) in the 73rd minute.

In dramatic fashion, the Lancers came right back and equalized the contest on a goal by junior Laura Maunsell (Medford, MA) who found the back of the net on a cross from freshman Alicia Macomber (Stoughton, MA) with 13:59 remaining.

The Owls turned up the pressue in the final 10 minutes of action, but freshman Mia Koutoulas (Danvers, MA) stopped a pair of shots and the hosts wasted a pair of corner kick opportunities.

In the extra session, Worcester State did have a chance right away to end it on a shot by Macomber, but her bid was too high.

That set the stage for Boscarino to end the game with her corner kick that found its way into the open goal for the match clincher.

Koutoulas stopped a season-high 13 shots between the pipes in the defeat as Keene State sophomore Victoria Crenson (N. Salem, NY) collected six saves.

The Owls held the 32-11 advantage in shots (16-8 on goal) and the 8-0 lead in corners.

Both squads turn their attention to their respective league schedules on Saturday. Worcester State heads to Westfield State for a key 6 PM matchup while Keene State hosts in-state rival Plymouth State at 1 o'clock.
