MASCAC Women's Soccer Tournament Bracket

North Adams, MA --- Freshman Alicia Macomber (Stoughton, MA) potted the match-clinching goal for Worcester State in the 103rd minute of double overtime  to help the Lancers defeat MCLA, 3-2, this afternoon at Shewcraft Field.

MCLA wraps up the regular season with a mark of 7-10 (2-5 MASCAC), while the Blue and Gold finish up at 8-7-2 (5-1-1 MASCAC).

Both teams have qualified for next week's MASCAC postseason tournament. MCLA will be the sixth seed and play #3 Bridgewater State on Wednesday at 5 PM. The second-seeded Lancers have recieved a first-roud bye and will entertain the winner of that matchup on Friday at 7 PM.

Worcester State took command in the opening half as junior Gaby Gonet (Agawam, MA) knocked home her 10th goal of the season off a feed from freshman Amanda Pruyn (Tyngsboro, MA) in the 26th minute to give the Lancers the early lead.

The Blue and Gold struck again in the 41st minute when sophomore Margo Clifford (Attleboro, MA) belted home a loose ball off a corner kick by Macomber, marking her first goal of the season and giving the Lancers the 2-0 halftime advantage.

The second half got off to a positive start for MCLA when junior Jennifer Ferrari (Westfield, MA) blasted a shot into the upper right corner off a great feed from senior Kasie Harrington (Dalton, MA) to cut the margin in half with 35 minutes remaining.

The score remained that way until the final minute when Ferrari would strike again.

This time, she took a pass from junior Brianna Dandurant (Amesbury, MA) and rifled a shot from outside the box that beat Worcester State first-year keeper Mia Koutoulas (Dancers, MA) again in the upper right corner with just 42 seconds left in regulation tallying her team-leading 10th marker of the season.

In the first overtime, Worcester squandered a pair of chances, but scored the golden goal just 2:36 into the second extra frame.

Macomber scored the winner as she blasted a bounding shot that bounced past Trailblazer junior net-minder Danielle Heinsohn (Norfolk, MA) to give the Lancers the hard-fought victory.

Heinsohn was spectacular in net for MCLA stopping 16 shots on the afternoon to keep the Trailblazers in it, while her counterpart Koutoulas, earned the win stopping 3 shots.

Worcester State owned a commanding 30-12 shot advantage, including 6-0 in the overtime frames.
