Women's Cross Country Takes Home Tri-States Invitational Championship

Lincoln, RI --- Led by junior Erin Donohue (Saugus, MA), the Worcester State women's cross country team captured five of the top nine slots to win the 2011 Tri-States Invitational Championship hosted by CCRI on their 3.25 mile course.  Donohue placed first with a time of 21:57.

The Lancers scored 24 points for the meet title followed by Clark (48), Wheaton (64), Mount Ida (128), Mitchell (132) and Anna Maria (154). Last season the Blue and Gold were just six points away from beating WPI for top team meet honors.

Sophomore Ali Barrett (Hingham, MA) added second (22:09) while junior Brittany Grueter (Foxboro, MA) along with first-year teammates Chelsey Peso (Uxbridge, MA) and Jennifer Cardinal (Chicopee, MA) placed sixth (22:35), seventh (22:40) and eighth (22:41), respectively.

Second-year Kelsey Cartwright (Bridgewater, MA) added ninth place with a time of 22:43 followed by junior Meg Plant (Franklin, MA) who rounded out the top seven with 12th (23:05).

Next week Worcester State will compete at the James Early Invitational hosted by Westfield State at nearby Stanley Park.
