Ojukwu and Vieira Receive MASCAC Weekly Awards

WESTFIELD, Mass. - John Ojukwu (Stow, Mass.) and Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.), both members of the Worcester State University men's indoor track & field team, have been named players of the week by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, brought to you by GEICO.

Ojukwu won the award for the MASCAC's Track Athlete of the Week award for the second consecutive week, after running a time of 7.02 in the 60m dash final to finish second overall at the Tufts National Qualifying Meet this weekend. The second place finish comes just a week after Ojukwu earned the New England Championship in the same event.

Vieira, who Sunday night was named a qualifier for the NCAA Championships in the weight throw, had a pair of top-four finishes in throwing events at Saturday’s Tufts National Qualifying Meet. He threw a distance of 15.15m (49’8.5”) in the shot put to finish in third place, and threw 18.59m (61’0”) in the weight throw for a fourth place finish.

Vieira will wrap up Worcester State's indoor season at the NCAA Championships next weekend, while Ojukwu and the rest of the Lancers gear up for the outdoor season, slated to begin on March 23 at the Bridgewater State Bears Invitational.
