Field Hockey Drops 5-1 Decision To Nichols

Dudley, MA --- The Nichols College field hockey team closed out the regular season with a 5-1 victory over visiting Worcester State University Wednesday evening on Vendetti Field. Senior MaryKate Frodema (Springfield, MA) scored a pair of goals to pace the Bison.

The number two seed in the The Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship Tournament, the Bison enter postseason play with a 13-4 record and will host either University of New England or Gordon College in the semifinal round a week from today. Worcester State dips to 6-12 overall with one Little East game remaining on the season against Eastern Connecticut on Saturday at 1 PM.

Emily Widdison (Greenfield, MA) got Nichols on the board just 38 seconds into the game with a shot from the top of the arc that found the lower left corner.

Frodema gave the home team a 2-0 lead headed into the break by putting in her own rebound in the 28th minute.

Eileen Clinton (Londonderry, NH) sent a pass from the side of the net to Barbara Roy (Springfield, MA, who was planted in front for Roy's 12th goal of the season and a 3-0 Bison lead at 36:36. Clinton followed in the 50th minute by knocking in a rebound to edge Nichols ahead, 4-0, and Frodema capped the Bison's scoring when she collected a long pass from Widdison at the far post and pushed it past the Worcester State keeper.

Sabrina Tordoff (Bellingham, MA registered the lone goal for the Lancers in the 66th minute on a penalty stroke.

Lancers goalkeeper Kat Maserjohn (Warren, MA made 11 saves in 66 minutes before giving way to Rebecca Mullen (Peabody, MA)for the remainder of the game. Mullen finished with on stop.

Nichols keeper Krista-Jean Forand (Plymouth, Mass.) made three saves in 60 minutes before bowing out to Emily Cornacchio (Salem, Mass.) for the rest of the contest.
