WORCESTER, Mass. – WPI's juniors Izzy Garver (Owls Head, Me.) and Ally Mills (W. Bridgewater, Mass.) teamed up to score the game-winning goal as WPI earned the 4-3 victory over Worcester State at Alumni Stadium Tuesday (Sep. 13) night.

With the win, The Engineers move to 3-2 and the Lancers slip to 2-3.

Trailing 3-2 ten minutes into the second half, junior Sabrina Guzzi (Suffield, Conn.) knocked home a rebound off an initial shot by senior Hope Shevchuk (Burlington, Conn.) to even the game at 46:34. Guzzi later took a penalty shot that was denied by Worcester's junior goalie, Kathryn Salemme (Acton, Mass.). Moments after that, Mills sent a cross to Garver who snapped the 3-3 tie at 58:12.

Mills put the Engineers on the board 17 minutes into the contest when she struck the ball and, with the aid of a deflection, lifted it past the Lancer goalie. Worcester State responded in the 20th minute when freshman Olivia Antonelli (Westford, Mass.) scored on a close range shot following a pass from sophomore Michaila Parent (Westborough, Mass.).

The hosts regained the lead six minutes later following a penalty corner as Mills received a feed from junior Amanda Richards (Wilmington, Mass.) and found the bottom left of the cage. With 3:48 left in the first half, Parent sent the ball left of the netminder and evened the game at 2-2.

Worcester State took its lone lead thanks to a goal by junior Hayley D'Auteuil (Sutton, Mass.) and an assist by classmate Jolane Thibault (Douglas, Mass.) shortly after the break.

Sophomore Karen Noble (Mariaville, Me.) stopped three shots as Salemme totaled six. Parent added a defensive save for the Lancers.

WPI held the advantage in both shots (12-7) and penalty corners (8-4).

The Engineers host Smith Saturday (Sep. 17) at 11 a.m. in the NEWMAC opener for both teams. Worcester State entertains Little East opponent Salem State Friday (Sep. 16) at 7 p.m.
