Peladeau Crowned Worcester City Champion; Lancers Earn Second Place Overall

WORCESTER, Mass. – Worcester State's sophomore golfer, Eddie Peladeau (Douglas, Mass.) earned the individual title at the annual Worcester City Championships hosted by Worcester State University to help his team to a second place finish on Saturday (Oct. 8) at the Blackstone National Golf Course.

Peladeau and three other golfers from Holy Cross (Joe Brosseau, Cameron Murray, and Sean Dain) all tied for first place carding a 75, resulting in a four-man playoff. The first hole was halved with bogies while the second hole saw three pars and one bogey. Peladeau won the playoff on the 4th hole and was crowned the champion.

"Eddie was under a tremendous amount of pressure during each shot of the playoff and in the end prevailed," commented head coach Mark Gurski. "The players from Holy Cross played incredibly well."

Also assisting in the second place finish was senior Patrick Sharron (Boylston, Mass.) who tied for seventh place with a 77 on the apr-72 course. Worcester State's Mike Jezierski (Thompson, Conn.) came in just after at 11th place, carding a 78 on the round.

Worcester's Steven Ferraro (Leicester, Mass.) and Kyle Puzzo (Ludlow, Mass.) rounded at the scoring at 13th and 24th places with 80 and 87 strokes, respectively.

"Overall great day," stated Gurski.  "The later groups saw a bit of weather as the clouds rolled in and the winds picked up."

Holy Cross claimed the team title, while the Lancers slid into second. Assumption College and Nichols College tied at the third place, while Becker came in at the fifth spot.

"It was commented by many people how refreshing it was to see great golf being played and the number of spectators who came out to watch," said Gurski.  "Almost every group had a few spectators following in the fairways."

"I am very proud of the team and how they played," concluded Gurski.  "We are looking forward to finishing the season strong the next two weeks at the GNAC's and NEIGA's."
