Men's Golf Knocked Off by Westfield State

WESTFIELD, Mass. - The Worcester State University men's golf team wrapped up its regular season on Saturday with a loss at the hands of Westfield State University in a dual match at Tekoa Country Club.

Westfield State senior Matteo Godek and Worcester State graduate student Connor Anderson (Raynham, Mass.) were co-medalists, shooting identical scores of one-over 72.

The two were evenly matched statistically all day, with both players making four birdies on the afternoon. Godek birdied the 231-yard par-3 18th to match the low score.

Westfield junior JJ Newcombe was third, four strokes back with a 76, and the Owls Kyle DelSignore fourth at 77. 

Worcester's Henry Bruckner (Franklin, Mass.) was fifth with a 78. Rounding out Worcester State's team scores were Will Sjogren (Auburn, Mass.) with an 89, Joe Desormier (Granby, Mass.) with a 92, and Ethan Bowlin (Holden, Mass.) with a 93.

Playing as individuals and not counting towards Worcester State's team score, Jake Poitras (Harwich, Mass.) carded an 84, while Cam Neary (Mansfield, Mass.) shot a 90 and first-year Marc Melanson (Natick, Mass.) turned in a 102.

Both teams will be back in action next Wednesday, April 28, for the 2021 MASCAC Men's Golf Championship, which will be played at The Ranch Golf Club in Southwick.
