Ipojuca Helps Lead Men's Soccer In Victory Over Wheelock

Worcester, MA --- Freshman Andre Ipojuca (Saugus, MA) netted a hat-trick to highlight Worcester State in their 17-0 triumph over Wheelock this evening in non-conference men's soccer action at Coughlin Field.

With the win the Lancers improve to 4-6-1 on the campaign while the Wildcats slip to 0-6 in the setback.

Junior Alec Ostrowski (Ludlow, MA) and freshman Etjon Rapi (Worcester, MA/Doherty) both finished with two tallies and a pair of assists each. Senior Eugene Duah (Worcester, MA/Doherty), classmate Derek Alves (Ludlow, MA) and sophomore Steven Julius (Ashby, MA) all chipped in with two markers apiece.

Senior Emil Dedo (Worcester, MA/Doherty) and freshman Jason Barrett (Spencer, MA) each split one half between the pipes as they combined for a trio of saves in the victory.

Freshman Evan Conway (Weymouth, MA) turned aside 12 for Wheelock in the setback.

The best chance that the Wildcats had to break the shutout came with 10 minutes remaining in regulation. Following a free kick on the near side of the field, freshman Rafael Pessah-Kirsch (Mexico City, Mexico) blasted a long kick from the 25 yard line, but Barrett was right there to make a sprawling save.

Kirsh ended up with five of Wheelocks six shots in the contest - including another free posession just outside of the right side of the box which Barrett scooped up in the closing minutes to help the Lancers notch their third shutout of the season.

In upcoming action, both squads will play opponents this weekend. Worcester State hosts Mass Maritime on Saturday at 4 PM in MASCAC action while the Wildcats heads to Elms for a 1 o'clock matchup.
