14 From Men's Soccer Named On Fall MASCAC All-Academic Team

Westfield, MA --- Senior teammates Emil Dedo (Worcester, MA/Doherty), Derek Alves (Ludlow, MA) and Eugene Duah (Worcester, MA/Doherty) lead the way with 14 men's soccer honorees on the MASCAC Fall All-Academic Team as announced by conference publicist Emily Diekelmann.

Others who were recognized include junior Andrew Miller (Norfolk, MA), third-year classmates Tim Schmidt (Southwick, MA) and Alfred Sogja (Worcester, MA/Doherty) along with sophomore Ramdal Mendez (Attleboro, MA).

Seven freshman who are first-time selections include Ryan Almeida (Palmer, MA), Jason Barrett (Spencer, MA), Matt Brillion (Acushnet, MA), Eric Davis (Hudson, MA), Matthew Dent (Ludlow, MA), Chris Martins (New Bedford, MA) and Elijah Mawejje (Woburn, MA).

To earn a spot on the MASCAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have achieved a 3.20 cumulative or semester based grade point average during their semester of competition.

The squad had the second highest sum in the MASCAC, which was just three off of Westfield State who led with 17. Dedo earned prestigious laurels for all four seasons while enrolled at WSU while Miller will be given a certificate for the third time.

Guided by fifth-year head coach Jason Willis, Worcester State went 5-10-2 and missed the postseason for the first time in three years.

Among institutions in the MASCAC, Worcester State had 99 overall selections on the league fall academic honor roll for the third highest total in the conference. The total number of WSU student-athletes also marked the highest since the league began listing its all-academic honor roll on a season-by-season basis during the 2009-10 academic year.
