Lancers Rank Second at Tufts Snowflake Classic

MEDFORD, Mass. – Worcester State's Sam Weeks (Methuen, Mass.), Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.), and Duy Truong (Worcester, Mass.) earned a combined 42 points for the Lancers in the teams' second place finish in the Tufts Snowflake Classic on Saturday (Apr. 2).

 

Weeks came in just one spot behind the top finisher from Dartmouth in both the shot put and discus throw events. He placed second in the shot put with a finals distance of 14.84m, qualifying for both Division III New England and ECAC Championships. He then marked another second place finish in the discus, with a top throw of 42.23m for another eight points.

 

Vieira came in right behind Weeks in the discus throw at 42.80m to qualify for Division III New England's. He marked a second place finish in the hammer throw at 44.03m. Behind him in the hammer throw were Anthony Christo (Peabody, Mass.), Robert White (Ludlow, Mass.), and Mike Piantedosi (Stow, Mass.) who earned third, fourth, and fifth place finishes, respectively, out of the 20 competitors in the event.

 

Worcester State's Truong placed third in the 100 Meter Hurdles in 16.28, earning six points for the Lancers and qualifying for Division III New England Championships in the event. He also qualified for Division III New England's in the long jump, placing third with a finals distance of 6.51m, grabbing another six points in the Lancers' total.

 

Charles Newman (Westfield, Mass.) and Christian Cedullo (Salem, Mass.) marked fourth and fifth places, respectively, in the 100 Meter Dash in 11.55 and 11.57. Eric Sanford (Peabody, Mass.) and Carlos Nieves (Clinton, Mass.) came in second and third places, respectively, in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase.

 

The team of Truong, Newman, Cedullo, and Benjamin Dussault (Assonet, Mass.) placed second in the 4x100 Meter Relay out of seven groups competing.

 

Jacob Roumanos (Whitman, Mass.) came in seventh place in the shot put at 13.20m. Adrian Lingo (Sharon, Mass.) marked a third place finish in the javelin throw, for a top-throw of 42.22m.

 

Next weekend, the Lancers travel to American International College for their third outdoor meet of the season.
