SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Worcester State University men's outdoor track & field team was led by junior Marcus Vieira (Peabody, Mass.) who once again, captured wins in both the discus and hammer throw, at Saturday's 8th Annual AIC Yellow Jacket Invitational.

RECAP

After capturing two first place finishes in the discus and hammer throws at last week's Tufts Snowflake Invitational, Vieira took first place in the discus and hammer once again with throws of 46.25m (151' 9") and 54.72m (179' 6"), respectively. He is currently qualified for Division III New England's in three events (shot put, discus, and hammer), and sits in the top-10 nationally in the discus and hammer throws.

 

Worcester State's Anthony Christo (Peabody, Mass.), Elmer Acuna (Newton, Mass.), Jacob Roumanos (Whitman, Mass.), and Andrew Valle (Stoughton, Mass.) also competed in throwing events. Christo marked a 4th place finish in the hammer, while Acuna notched fifth in the discus.

 

Worcester State's sophomore sprinter, Edward Boamah (Worcester, Mass.) qualified for Division III New England's in the 200 meter with a time of 22.60. He came in second place in today's event and stands at 21st in Division III New England.

 

Ryan Connolly (Braintree, Mass.) placed fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 12.48m (40' 11.5").

 

UP NEXT

Next weekend, the team will travel to Westfield State for competition.
