Softball Takes Both Ends of Sunday Doubleheader

Buzzards Bay, MA --- Worcester State College pitching tied up the Lady Bucs at the plate Sunday as the Lancers held Massachusetts Maritime Academy to eight hits over the course of a dozen innings. WSC claimed both ends of the doubleheader 8-1 and 13-0.

Senior captain Danielle Caron (Peabody, MA) needed just five frames to earn a 13-0 victory in the second game, thanks to nine first inning runs by the Lancers. Caron allowed just three hits, while striking out five. In the opening contest WSC gave the ball to Jessalyn Hyland (Swansea, MA), who held the MMA bats to just one run on five hits. Hyland struckout eight.

Senior second baseman Kerri Berthelette (Taunton, MA) was 2-for-3 for the Bucs in the opener and scored MMA's only run. Freshman catcher Myra Shannon (Newburgh, ME) was a perfect 3-for-3 in the second game for the Buccaneers.

The Lancers were led by junior catcher Ashley Nye (Marion, MA) who went 3-for-5 in the opener scoring two runs and knocking in another. In the second game Nye was 3-for-4 with three RBI. Second baseman Ashley Loomer (Pepperell, MA) also had a big afternoon at the plate finishing the first game 2-for-5 with a run scored and going 2-for-3 in the second game scoring three times. Freshman Karen Feeley (W. Springfield, MA) was 4-for-4 in the second game with a run scored and two RBI.

Cali Longtin (Feeding Hills, MA) took both loses for the Bucs.

With the win WCS advances to 7-6, while MMA falls to 0-9.
