Nye and Mahoney Selected To All-MASCAC Softball Team

Buzzards Bay, MA --- Senior catcher Ashley Nye and sophomore lefthander Michaella Mahoney each received nods to the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball second team this past week in voting by the league's coaches as announced by league publicist Jim Seavey.

Mahoney, who hails from Shrewsbury, posted an 8-9 record with a 1.59 earned run average. Mahoney also started 18 games, finishing all of them, as she fanned 128 batters in 128 innings pitched while she also hurled three shutouts. Mahoney also held opponents to a .223 batting average as she only allowed 13 extra base hits all season.

Mahoney finished the year second in the MASCAC in innings and complete games while she was third in ERA, strikeouts and shutouts. Her opposing batting average and win total were also fourth in the conference.

Nye, a product of Marion, MA, captures her third straight All-MASCAC selection as an all conference catcher. This season she caught 27 of 31 games behind the back-stop for the Lancers as she posted a .994 fielding percentage with one error this year. Nye also picked off one runner and caught three more stealing.

Nye batted .256 with six RBIs and seven runs scored while she led WSC with seven multi-hit games.

Worcester State ended the year out with a 10-21-1 record and at 4-8 in conference play under first-year head coach Jen Kapenas.
