Mahoney Named MASCAC Softball Pitcher of the Week

Buzzards Bay, MA --- Junior southpaw Michaella Mahoney has been selected as the inaugural MASCAC softball pitcher of the week for her performance during Worcester State’s spring trip to Florida.

For Mahoney this is the second time in her two-year WSC career that she has been distinguished as she picked up the honor in the second to last week of the regular season last year.

Mahoney, who hails from Shrewsbury, MA, posted a pair of victories to go with a 0.52 ERA on the week for the Lancers as she fanned 35 in 40 innings of work. Mahoney tossed a pair of three hit shutouts as she combined for 17 strikeouts in triumphs over Polytechnic (NY) and Smith as she held opponents to a .146 batting average (20-for-138).

Mahoney also picked up her first career save in a 4-0 win over Amherst as she allowed one hit in a two-inning appearance. Mahoney was 2-4 last week as she was the tough luck loser in a pair of 1-0 setbacks to Wheaton and Curry while she also lost 2-1 to Brockport State when they scored a pair of runs in the ninth frame.

Mahoney was the designated player in eight of ten contests. She notched a .269 average with five RBIs which included a 3-for-4 performance with two RBIs against Amherst and she went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and two plated runs against Smith.

Worcester State kicks off their northern schedule with a doubleheader against Elms at 12 on Saturday at Holy Cross (tenatively) as Rockwood Park is still under construction.
