Pease, Storro Highlight Five All-MASCAC Softball Selections

Buzzards Bay, MA --- Senior Kylene Pease (Ashland, MA) and Hannah Everson (Methuen, MA), junior Hillary Hart (Clinton, MA), sophomore Katie Storro (Leominster, MA) and freshman Hayley Terry (N. Dighton, MA) have all earned a nod to the All-MASCAC Softball Team as announced by league publicist Jim Seavey in a vote by the leagues eight head coaches this week.

Storro and Pease both earned first-team accolades while Hart, Terry and Everson were all distinguished on the second team.

Pease, who started 28 games at first-base this season, is currently batting a team-best .375 with four doubles, one homer, 17 RBIs and 15 runs scored. She is second in the conference in batting, fifth in on-base percentage (.412) and eighth in slugging (.412).

With just two strikeouts in 96 at-bats, Pease is among one of the toughest to fan in the NCAA Division III as she is ranked 21st in the nation and fourth in New England.

Storro, who patrolled left-field for 28 out of a possible 35 games on the campaign, swatted .293 with two doubles, one triple, 16 runs scored and 12 RBIs. But Storro's greatest impact came in MASCAC games as she batted a league-best .405 (15-for-37) in 14 contests. She was among the leaders with 11 runs and nine RBIs against league opponents.

Terry, who started in 35 games at second-base, was one of three first-year players named to the All-MASCAC team and two on the second-team.

Terry has batted .298 with a trio of doubles, 13 runs and 15 RBIs. Along with hitting for a .308 clip against conference opponents, she also sported a .969 fielding percentage, which was among one of the highest at her position.

Hart, who played 31 games at catcher, batted .205, but is among the team leaders in several power categories which include six doubles, two homers, 17 RBI. Hart has also come up in the clutch for the Lancers with nine runs driven in with two men down and she is hitting .357 with runners in scoring position.

Pease, Storro, Terry and Hart helped anchor a defense that is currently ninth in the NCAA Division III and second in New England as they have only committed 30 miscues in 37 games for a .973 fielding percentage.

Everson earns her second-consecutive appearance on the All-MASCAC team for being recognized as one of the four best pitchers in the conference. She has posted an 8-5 mark to go with a 0.73 earned run average and 82 strikeouts in 96 innings pitched.

Among the conference leaders Everson is second in ERA, seventh in both complete games and strikeouts and she is 10th in innings pitched. Due in large part to the efforts in Everson yielding just 10 earned runs for the season, the Lancers are ranked 22nd in Division III in team earned run average and they are fourth in New England in the category.

Everson has 12 complete games in 12 game starts – including three which have gone for extra innings – and she has a pair of saves to her credit on the year. If the season ended today, she would have the fourth-lowest ERA in a single-season and she is only four innings off from being ranked seventh in the nation.

Under the direction of fifth-year head coach Jen Kapenas, Worcester State finished the season with a 22-15 mark overall and 8-6 record to tie for second place in the MASCAC standings. As the third-seed they entertain #6 Framingham State later today at 5 PM at Rockwood Park the first round of the MASCAC tournament in an elimination game.
