Burns Selected To Play In NEWBA Senior Classic

 

Keene, NH --- Senior Meaghan Burns (W. Brookfield, MA) has been chosen to play in the annual New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Senior Classic after a vote by the regions head coaches last week. Burns gets the opportunity to showcase her talents with 22 other senior standouts on Saturday, March 29 at Smith College at 1 PM.

Burns, a two-time All-MASCAC Second-team selection, wrapped up the 2013-14 season averaging 14.4 points, 6.2 boards and 2.1 assists in 26 games. She helped lead the Lancers to their 24th consecutive MASCAC Tournament appearance and over the course of her career, she helped lead the Blue and Gold to a trio of league semifinal berths.

In addition to ending her career 11th on WSU's all-time scoring list (1,136 points), Burns finished her four seasons among the all-time leaders in free throw percentage (.693) and fourth in both average swipes (1.9) and total steals (200).

She paced a defense that led the conference in the fewest points allowed per game (56.7 PPG) and currently ranks in the top 25 nationally in free throw percentage (.702).

Burns is joined on the team with three other representatives from the MASCAC including Ginny Fleming (Peabody, MA) of Salem State along with Jenna Williamson (Ludlow, MA) and Elisha Homich (Ludlow, MA) of Bridgewater State.

There have been numerous participants of the NEWBA Senior Classic from Worcester State including current women's basketball assistant coach and last years MASCAC Player of the Year Meaghan O'Keefe.
