North Dartmouth, MA --- Worcester State freshman Megan Shepard (Middletown, CT) has been selected as the season's inaugural Little East Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week for helping lead the Lancers to a win over Newbury this past weekend.
In her collegiate debut, Shepard posted a pair of victories to defeat the Nighthawks, 8-1, on Saturday. Shepard recorded a 6-1 and 6-3 straight set win in the third flight while she teamed up with junior Brooke Michanczyk (Middletown, CT) to dispatch of their opponents at second doubles, 8-2.
The honor for the Lancers marks the first time since joining the Little East in 2010 that the squad has had a student-athlete earn weekly conference accolades.
WSU has two matches this week on the road including a non-conference matchup against Clark at 5 PM today and they open LEC play with Bridgewater State on Sunday at 1 PM.
