Clark Defeats Women's Tennis 7-2 In Crosstown Clash

 

Worcester, MA --- Paced by junior teammates Sarah Sachs (Bradford, CT) and Gaby Surino (San Savador, El Savador), Clark swept all three doubles points and four of this evening's six singles matches to defeat Worcester State, 7-2, in non-conference women's tennis action at the Corash Courts.

Suriano teammed with Pheobe Hughes (Parkland, FL) for the 8-0 win at first doubles before Sachs and senior Martha Ziemer (Arlington, MA) defeated their matchup for the 8-3 victory in the second flight.

At third doubles, WSU sophomore Miranda Biron (Webster, MA/Bartlett) and junior Laura Sarkis (W. Springfield, MA) battled through a back-and-forth matchup, but ultimately fell to senior Laura Ziemer (Arlington, MA) and freshman Rebecca Kravetz (Wayland, MA), 8-6.

Surino and Sachs then posted wins at first and second singles, respectively, while graduate student Kourtney Kelley (Barnstable, MA) won as the fourth seed, 6-1 and 6-2 against junior Brooke Michanczyk (Middletown, CT). First-year Kera Synder also defeated Sarkis at sixth singles, 6-2 and 6-2.

The lone points for the Blue and Gold came in the form of freshman Megan Shepard (Middletown, CT) and Biron. Shepard was impressive posting the 6-1 and 6-0 triumph at third singles as Biron was victorious at fifth singles by scores of 6-3 and 6-1.

Worcester State will open up LEC play with Bridgewater State at 1 PM at the Rosen Tennis Courts in Bridgewater, MA on Sunday while the Cougars travel to Simmons for a noontime matchup on Saturday.
