Women's Tennis Posts 8-1 Win Over Anna Maria

Paxton, MA --- Sophomore teammates Danielle Candelieri (Chelmsford, MA) and Taylor Tomasetti (Waterford, CT) combined for a win at doubles and two wins at singles as they helped pace Worcester State to a 8-1 triumph over Anna Maria in non-conference women's tennis action this evening.

Candelieri and Tomassetti paired at first doubles for the 8-3 triumph before freshman Megan Shepard (Middletown, CT) and second-year Miranda Biron (Webster, MA) followed with the 8-2 victory at second doubles.

Junior classmates Brooke Michanczyk (Middletown, CT) and Laura Sarkis (W. Springfield, MA) also earned the solid 8-1 win at third doubles.

In singles action for the Blue and Gold (2-2), Candelieri bested third-year Victori Minotti (Shelton, CT) at first singles, 6-2 and 6-4, as Tomassetti was victorious at third singles with a 6-2 and 7-5 win over sophomore Nichole Gondreau (Harrisville, RI).

After Michanczyk defeated AMCAT freshman Katelyn Edelson (Berlin, CT), 6-1 and 6-4, at fourth flight singles, Biron and Sarkis finished by sweeping their opponents in consecutive sets as the fifth and sixth seeds, respectively.

Anna Maria's (0-4) lone win came at second singles when junior Emily Williamson (Spencer, MA) handed Shepard a 7-5 and 6-3 setback for her first win of the season.

Biron is now 3-1 this season with all wins coming at fifth singles while Candelieri and Tomasetti are 2-2 as the top doubles team.

Worcester State will host Wentworth tomorrow at Clark University in a noontime match-up while the AMCATS take the weekend off and head to Albertus Magnus for a 3:30 PM contest on the road.
