Women's Indoor Track Finishes Fourth at Tufts Invitational

Medford, MA --- Sophomore sprinter Sarah Rafferty (Uxbridge, MA) finished sixth in the 55 meter dash (7.68) and ninth in the 200 (27.89) to help the Worcester State Women’s Indoor Track team to place fourth overall with 55 points at the Tufts Invitational this past weekend. 12 teammates added top ten finishes as the team competed in their first meet after the winter break.

Division II UMass Lowell was the meet winner with 211 team points while the hosting Jumbos took second (170) and RPI tallied 124 points.

Freshman Maura Withington (Walpole, MA) improved upon her season marks finishing fourth in the 800 (2:34.83) and fifth in the mile (5:41.39) while junior Kara Antrim (Rowley, MA) crossed the line in third in the 1000 (3:14.63).

Sophomore Rachel Sullivan (Ipswich, MA) registered fourth in the 5,000 (21:42.73) while first-year Meg Plant (Franklin, MA) placed 12th in the 1000 (3:29.61) and 10th in the 3000 (11:58.98).

In the field, sophomore Andrea Ouellette (Salisbury, MA) led the charge as she took the top spot in the triple jump (33-09.25) while placing eighth in the long jump (14-10.00). Sophomore Becky Galipeau (Bellingham, MA) finished in fifth in the long jump (15-10.50) and eighth in the high jump (4-09.00) while sophomore Christina Bisbee (N. Attleboro, MA) threw seventh in the weight throw (35-06.75). Rafferty finished her afternoon placing 12th in the long jump (12-02.25).

Ouellette also took seventh in the 55 meter hurdles (9.68) while newcomer Mara Kralian (Grafton, MA) rounded out the sprinters placing 15th in the 200.

Galipeau, Ouellette, Rafferty and Withington each combined to take home fourth in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:30.06, just 15 seconds off the top finisher.

The Lancers will race again next week at Boston University. The first gun will sound at 11 AM.
